Philippines Reaching Saturation Point in Number of Users On Facebook

The Philippines is slowly losing its hold in the Top 10 countries on Facebook.

In January 2011, the Philippines gained its highest position in the rank of countries with the largest population on Facebook at 5th place with 20,802,540 registered users, garnering a global audience share of 3.55% on the largest social network.  Last year was also a great year for the Philippines as it gained an estimated 7,808,540 users giving the country a push to 27,033,680 users by the end of 2011.

Unfortunately, for 2012, there hasn't been as much growth in terms of new users for Facebook.  As of February 23, 2012, the Philippines is ranked 8th place with 27,594,420 registered users.  One factor of the sudden slowdown could possibly be that the country is reaching its saturation point with its current internet population.   The number of Philippine Facebook users constitute 92.91% of the entire Philippine Internet population.  Given those figures, there's only a remained of less than 2.5 million Philippine Internet users who aren't on Facebook yet.  And even with a 100% Philippine penetration of Facebook, we could only go far as the number of the current  Philippine Internet user total.

Given that analogy with current statistics, it looks like that 8th place is the highest place the Philippines can attain as 7th placer United Kingdom is ranked with more than 30 million Facebook users.

The bright side is that the Philippines Facebook penetration rate is very high at 92.91%, one of the highest penetration rates and still is the largest social network used by Filipinos.

In addition, as of December 31, 2011, there's a 26.5% penetration rate of Facebook users for the entire Philippine population, which translates to every 1 in 4 Filipinos a registered on Facebook.
