Philippines Reaches Its Highest Global Market Share in Facebook Ever

As of Feb. 15, 2011, the Philippines reaches an all-time record global market share in Facebook at 3.71%, the highest the country has experienced, which accounts for 22,647,820 Philippine users registered on Facebook out of the current Facebook global total of over 610 million users.   Last July 2010, the country had a 3.08% market penetration and rose to 3.26% in September.  By December, it reached 3.33%.   By the 1st week of 2011, the share grew to 3.55% leading to this month's highest at 3.71%.

The Philippines still ranks 5th in the countries with the largest Facebook population, with less than 3 million users away from claiming the 4th spot currently held by Turkey.

More than 1/3rd of the Philippine Facebook population consists of users ages 18-24.  Also, slightly more than half of the total Philippine Facebook population are female.

 And you guessed it right, all around the Metro, people are greeting each other on Twitter as the Chinese New Year ushered in last midnight.

The Chinese New Year greeting in the Hokkien dialect is "Kiong Hee Huat Tsai" which translates to “Congratulations and wishing you prosperity!”  

Also, the Cantonese version, “Kung Hei Fat Choi” is still obviously the more popular greeting.  However, Filipinos are now urged to use and adapt the Hokkien version since it's the dialect spoken in the Fujian province where most of the Chinese-Filipinos come from.

Another Half a Million Filipinos Join Facebook

Since January 25, 2011, another 557,060 Filipinos joined Facebook bringing the country total to 22,316,340 Filipinos, a 3.68% global share on the giant social network.   The female to male percentage is 52.1% is to 47.9% with 11.5 million females registered.   The 18 - 24 age brackets still remains the top age segment with 8,665,500 users.

The Philippines is just a little bit over 3 million users away from gaining the 4th spot from Turkey as the largest Facebook population.  With the current rate we're going, we just might reach that before May 2011.
